Save the Date

On March 8th @ 7pm, The Valparaiso University Chorale will be performing a concert at St. Johannes Lutheran Church. Under the direction of Dr. Christopher M. Cock, the 48-mixed voice ensemble performs an eclectic repertoire that spans from traditional to significant contemporary works, all in their original languages. The Chorale was honored as the only international ensemble invited to perform at Castle Church in Germany to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the Reformation on October 31, 2017. On this day, they also performed with the Thomanerchor in St. Thomas Church, where Johann Sebastian Bach once worked. The Chorale has served six residencies at the St. Thomas Church. The concert at St. Johannes Lutheran Church will feature works by Herbert Howells, Eric Whitacre and F. Melius Christiansen, among others. For more information about the Chorale, please visit

Altar Flowers

The 2018 Flower Chart is in the Narthex.  Please mark when you would like to place flowers on the altar.  Currently we have all of February filled, but plenty of dates are wide open.  Call Gerry Naumann, the Flower Guild chairman, if you have any questions.

Children Sermons

Our children sermons have become a vital part of our service and all ages of “children” are welcomed each week!  Even the Citadel cadets get in on the action.

Lutheran Campus Ministry at The Citadel

Have you noticed a few Citadel Cadets in worship?  Each Sunday, we will be providing transportation for those cadets who wish to attend morning service at St. Johannes.  They need to be picked up from The Citadel campus at 8:45am, and dropped back off after church.  Volunteers are needed to help with transportation….or how about taking a cadet to lunch after church?

As the Chaplain for Lutheran Campus Ministry at the Citadel, Pastor Alvin meets with the Lutheran cadets every Monday evening.  Local Lutheran churches are responsible for providing a meal each Monday for 10-15 cadets.  St. Johannes will be responsible for the 4th and 5th Monday.  We will be providing a meal on February 26thMarch 26th, and April 23rd at The Citadel in Mark Clark Hall, room 340.  Volunteers are needed to help prepare and/or serve these meals. A big thanks to Katie TurnerJean Rivas, and Kay Winnett for helping out with previous meals!

If you are interested in helping out with this Outreach effort, please contact Mary Lou Waitschies at or (843) 224-3854Monetary donations to assist with the cost of the meals will also be welcomed. Checks can be made out to: St. Johannes and marked for “Citadel Dinner.”
